Clean Candle Promise

A great candle goes beyond just a great fragrance – it’s a blend of science and craft that should have a net positive effect on both you and your environment. The candle industry is full of fragrances that sacrifice health and environmental concerns in favor of powerful aromas that can cause headaches, stick to your environment, and leave soot on the walls (not to mention your lungs). At Firelands Wax, we believe long term health is more important than short term fragrance, and so we’ve made a commitment to create the absolute cleanest non-toxic candles in the industry, based on science.

ALL of our candles are free of phthalates and other chemicals that require a CA Prop 65 warning.  These are widely regarded as the most toxic chemicals in the industry and excluding them is why I label my candles as non-toxic. Phthalates are synthetic chemicals designed to make scent molecules last longer and cling to surfaces including fabrics, skin, and hair. This causes ingredients to smell more powerful, but also to build up in your environment and body. Fragrances without phthalates dissipate more quickly, don’t linger or cling to surfaces, and break down more readily, reducing environmental and biological buildup. Chemicals requiring a CA Prop 65 warning can be commonly found in fragrances, but are known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Both phthalates and Prop 65 chemicals are responsible for the irritation many consumers experience when burning candles.

Because our candles exclude these ingredients, they can be enjoyed safely and by sensitive people who normally experience headaches, migraines, or other discomfort from burning ordinary candles. By combining these industry-leading non-toxic fragrance oils with pure soy wax and paper woven wicks, we are able to create a truly clean burning candle that doesn’t flare sensitivities or linger in your environment and body.

We’ve also gone one step farther to ensure more than half of our collection is further free of animal derivatives, antimicrobials, and other molecules that are not on the CA Prop 65 warning list but could have similar concerns – those candles are indicated by the Clean Plus designation in their product description. In addition to being free of phthalates and chemicals on the CA Prop 65 list, Clean Plus candles are also free of the ingredients belowas quoted from the manufacturer’s website here. To learn more about their industry changing initiative and what it took to get there, please click here.

Clean Plus Exclusion List

While ALL of our candles are free of phthalates and chemicals on the CA Prop 65 list, Clean Plus candles are further free of the following ingredients. NOTE: Candles without the Clean Plus label do not necessarily have any of the following ingredients – they are just from a different supplier who does not specify past phthalate and prop 65 free.
